In Queensland, anyone wishing to purchase asthma reliever medication for First Aid purposes must have successfully completed an Asthma Management Course. This is a 1 hour stand alone course or can be incorporated into our national accredited Apply First Aid Course.

Our Asthma Management Course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to manage an asthma attack (acute asthma) and to prevent/manage exercise induced Asthma (EIA).

Our Asthma Management Course satisfies Queensland Health ‘Specific Learning Objectives’ and is approved under section 256B(1) of the Health (Drugs and Poisons) Regulation 1996.

Course Content (as outlined by QLD Health)

Recognises:

Use Reliever medications
Use a spacer device with reliever medication
Prevent/manage Exercise Induced Asthma (EIA)
Implement an Asthma First Aid Plan
Call an ambulance/seek further medical assistance

Entry Requirements:

None - No pre-requisite

Duration:
Stand alone course
Minimum 1 hour (as set by Qld Health) OR
As part of the Apply First Aid Course – course extended appropriately to cover Specific Learning Objectives.
